Indoor Photo Scavenger Hunt
Kids use an old phone or tablet to find items.
Why it works
Older kids respond to 'missions' and to feeling trusted with grown-up tools. A photo hunt sends them all over the house in a focused, productive way — instead of bored-and-loud. They burn energy without you needing to engage. When they come back to show you the photos, that's *your* moment of connection on your terms.
What you need
- An old phone, tablet, or kid-safe camera
- A simple list of 10 things to find and photograph
Setting it up
- 1Write a list of 10 items — mix of concrete ('something blue') and creative ('something that makes you laugh').
- 2Hand them the device and the list.
- 3Set a timer for 30 minutes.
- 4Tell them: 'Bring me the photos when you're done. I'll pick my favorite.'
Tips
- Sample items: something fuzzy, something with a pattern, something older than you, something tiny, your favorite thing in your room, something blue, an animal (real or toy), something that smells nice, a shadow, the messiest place in the house.
- Theme it for variety: 'find 10 things that start with the letter T' / 'find 10 things from your favorite color.'
